Overweight

Life has a way of presenting obstacles that will attach themselves to us if we are not careful. Sometime people attach themselves to us for reason unknown to us and we find ourselves carry them. Some we carry financially, some spiritually and others we don't know why we have carried them for the past decade or so. And just like that we find ourselves overweight with no room for the things and people we should be carrying. The writer of Hebrew puts it this way, "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God". (Heb 12:1,2)

The writer listed two things that easily beset us.

1) Weight - a mental or moral burden, as of care, sorrow, or responsibility.

So if weight is a burden then Christians should never be overweight because of what the Lord said in Matthew 11:28-30, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden (burden), and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

So according to what was listed in the above scriptures mental or moral burden should not weight us down. The care and sorrow we experience should not burden us down because we yoke up with the Lord of Host himself. Yoke here is a metaphor compared to the yoke that would be placed on animals to carry heavy loads. We are not designed to bear heavy mental or physical loads.

2) Sin - to trespass or violate the divine law of God.

Sin is always and option according to the devil but we don't have to exercise or execute the deceptive plan of the adversary.

The Hebrew writer admonishes us to lay the sin and weight aside to avoid being overweight because we have a race to run and the finish line is HEAVEN!!!

See you at the finish line!
