Perfecting Silver
Throughout the bible we read about silver and gold being used as a median of exchange. Silver having the lessor value of the two. Nevertheless, silver was and still is a desirable precious metal.
There are several processes to extract and purify silver. In one process the substance is melted, then the lead would solidify, leaving behind the liquid substance which contained the most silver. This process was performed over and over again until the silver was purified.
At first glance the lead and the silver may look similar but the silversmith was more interested in the silver because of its value.
Malachi 3:2-3 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.
The number of times we go through the process depends on how willing we are to release the impurities. We are all valuable to the Lord but we are most valuable once we have been purified by him.
And then stamped.
