The Harvest

Matthew 9:37-38 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Christians have a basic problem, but before I identify the problem, let me share this. The farmer tills the ground, plant the seeds, and harvest the crops. What sense does it make for the farmer to do all that work and not harvest the crop? Harvesting the crop is the most rewarding part of the process.

So what is the basic problem that Christians possess? They want to reap the harvest but they don’t want to be seen in the fields. We want to share the gospel of Jesus with those who are in the wilderness but we don’t want to be seen talking to drug addicts, sex offenders, the gay person, or the perpetrating Christian. We don’t want to be seen in the field bringing in the harvest. That’s why Jesus said we need to pray for labors.
